Product Testing
As much as Centor Architectural enjoys being innovative, ensuring products
meet and exceed the highest standards for durability is equally a passion.
This means significant investment in repeatedly testing systems under
the toughest of conditions – then testing them again!
Finite Element Analysis
Our testing regime first starts with Finite Element Analysis. FEA
is a computerized simulation technique where components are exposed to virtual
operating environments and accurate predictions made in terms of load and
deflection. Centor undertakes FEA in the design process to ensure
the best balance of performance, cost and materials before we even commence
prototyping and physical testing.

Cyclic Testing
Centor’s has very tough minimum requirements of cyclic testing
for any released product. Our folding door systems, for instance, must
first meet a grueling 50,000 cycles without a single failure at the
maximum rated configuration. We do not consider it sufficient
however to test in pristine laboratory conditions - hardly those in
the real world - but instead deliberately first contaminate with a mixture
of plaster dust, cement and good old beach sand. Only once our
hardware has survived this test can we be assured that it will provide
you with years of trouble free operation.
Corrosion Testing
Centor uses stainless steels, brass, anodized aluminum and engineering plastics
throughout its external systems and are carefully selected to maximize
performance in any environment. Centor conducts thorough corrosion
testing in an ISO 9227 salt spray chamber, fixing hardware to various substrates (including
various wood species and aluminium) to ensure that they perform in challenging
conditions such as exposed coastal applications.
Weather Testing
When we design a new system for an external window or door application,
we conduct rigorous wind and water laboratory testing. There are several
elements to this including spraying water under wind pressure, structural
testing to cyclonic/hurricane loads and air leakage. We have successfully
tested systems to;

Standards
We do many other tests depending on the type of product and the environment
it is likely to be used in. As an example, our ES2 Door Screen was
subject to Body Impact Tests where it was repeatedly impacted by a sand-filled
punching bag. These types of tests are difficult to accurately represent
by computer modeling, and being a new class of product, no Product Performance
Standards yet exist. Centor not only has representatives on Industry
Bodies which work on these Performance Standards but is instrumental in having
Committees raised so that new Standards can be written.
